Overview
Finish:Ljubljana, Slovenia
Travel Period
- Ljubljana: Join your Travel Director for an orientation of the city. See City Hall, Prešeren Square, the pink facade of the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation and the iconic Triple Bridge. You'll also catch a view of Ljubljana Castle watching over the city from its hilltop perch.
- You’ll get your bearings around Postojna, where pale limestone landscapes and quiet streets hint at the vast cave system below. Take in the surrounding karst scenery and local architecture as your orientation introduces you to this corner of Slovenia.
- Explore Koper, where narrow lanes weave between Venetian-influenced buildings and open onto sunlit squares near the Adriatic. Notice carved stone façades, colourful shutters and traces of the city’s maritime past as you explore Slovenia’s historic coastal hub.
- Discover Piran, where narrow lanes open onto stone squares and the scent of the Adriatic drifts in from the waterfront. Notice Venetian façades, terracotta rooftops and boats gathered in the harbour as you take in this compact Slovenian town and its centuries-old connection to the sea.
- Pause in the winemaking village of Goče, where your orientation takes you through narrow stone lanes, some barely a metre wide, past carved portals and enclosed courtyards. Surrounded by the vineyards of the Vipava Valley, the village is also home to around 60 traditional vaulted wine cellars.
- At a family-run winery in the Vipava Valley, you’ll sample regional wines alongside a bite of local food. You may taste varieties such as Zelen or Pinela, grapes long associated with the area, while your hosts share more about local winemaking traditions and methods.
- Lake Bled: Take the day to enjoy the forests and mountains of Lake Bled.
- With your Travel Director, take in Kamnik’s historic centre beneath the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Pass old churches and painted façades as you move through the centre, then perhaps stop for a coffee or gelato in the square and watch the town carry on around you.
- Discover Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city, from its old town streets to the Lent district beside the Drava River. Follow the waterfront past historic buildings and riverside terraces, with bridges stretching across the water, and take in the surrounding Pohorje hills beyond.
- Meander through Ptuj, where cobbled streets and medieval façades lead towards the Drava River. Look up to Ptuj Castle high above the terracotta rooftops, and notice traces of the town’s Roman past as you make your way through its historic centre.
